Celebrating 150 years
Northfield Savings Bank continues our year-long celebration of providing 150 years of service to meet the financial needs of fellow Vermonters. On October 27, a gathering was held to commemorate our sesquicentennial and unveil a new symbolic cornerstone. This beautiful granite plaque will be installed in the lobby of our historic, and completely modernized, home office at 33 South Main Street in Northfield.
The phrase "True, Tried and Trusted Shall It Stand" was sited during the Bank's 50th anniversary 100 years ago, and replicated on the plaque today.
The event took place at Norwich University, an institution NSB shares a long history with. The Bank's first president, Rev. Edward Bourns, was also a president of the university.
Attendees included NSB employees, retirees, trustees, representatives from Norwich and community members. Also in attendance were descendants of several past NSB Presidents, including family members of Richard Gaylord (1943-1972), Francis Leonard (1972-1977), and Leslie Seaver (1977-1987). G. William Ellis (1987-1998) and his wife were on hand, as were Thomas Leavitt (2014-present) with his wife and son.
